A trip to the dentist can be stressful for some patients. Because your dental health is so important, we provide options for sedation dentistry to help you relax. Our sedation options include oral sedatives, intravenous (IV) sedation, nitrous oxide, and general sedation.
Oral sedatives are prescription medication that you take prior to your appointment. They provide a moderate level of sedation. IV sedation is administered with an intravenous drip and provides a high level of sedation similar to a deep sleep. Nitrous Oxide sedation, also known as “laughing gas,” is administered with a mask that fits over your mouth and nose. It provides a euphoric level of sedation that wears off quickly.
General sedation puts you in a deep sleep. You won’t be aware of your treatment while it’s happening.
All sedatives can impair your ability to drive and you may feel the effects of the medication for up to 24 hours following your appointment. We strongly recommend that you arrange a ride home and have someone stay with you at home for at least a day.
